Acupuncture & Dry Needling

At SCAR our chiropractic physicians are certified in acupuncture and dry needling. Both techniques are used in healing chronic and acute pains. Some examples include but not limited to headaches, low back pain, sciatica, stubborn knots and trigger points, neck pain, stiffness, frozen shoulder, radiating pain etc.

Acupuncture utilizes fragile, hair thin needles which are individually sterilized and disposable. Acupuncture is a form of medical treatment that’s been around for thousands of years. Acupuncture originated in Asian medical practice whereas dry needling is a modern approach and due to efficacy, has grown in popularity. The American medical association accepts Acupuncture as a medical treatment, and some insurance companies may cover the cost of treatment.

Dry needling differs from acupuncture in that dry needling is an 'In and out' insertion of the needle to trigger point, knots or muscle spasms, and even scar tissue. It can provide immediate relief of muscle tension and stiffness, therefore improving pain free range of motion. Our office often utilizes this technique in conjunction with chiropractic for sports injuries, fibromyalgia, and joint pain. Common, but mild side effects can include mild bleeding, bruising, and temporary soreness.
